What's the Wi-Fi password?
I know...first things first, right? The password will be in the email you receive shortly after your booking is confirmed.
When is check-in/checkout?
The times are staggered so we can get all four rooms cleaned while offering the longest window of time for our guests to enjoy the space. The "Bright, Cheery" and "Luxurious" hobbit holes check in/out are 3PM and 11AM. The "Magical" and "Romantic" hobbit holes are 4PM and 12PM (noon).
Did you build these yourself?
We did! The structure is made of FRP (fiber-reinforced polymer) panels bolted to the foundation. We were hands-on in every step of the process from site prep to finish carpentry, but had a lot of help along the way. Don't get us started talking about the benefits of earth-covered construction or the durability of these buildings unless you have some time to spare!
How does breakfast work?
Breakfast is chef's choice, so there's no need to worry about placing an order. Please let us know in advance if you have any food allergies, dietary restrictions or aversions so we can plan the menu accordingly. We will bring breakfast to your room between 9:00 and 9:30 AM unless you have the "No admittance except on party business" sign on your door or request early/late delivery.
Why is it called Second Breakfast?
Hobbits eat breakfast at 6:00-6:30 AM (a bit early for us) and second breakfast around 9AM - followed by elevensies, luncheon, afternoon tea, supper and dinner for a total of seven meals. Life goals...
Do you allow more than two people?
The hobbit holes have one king-sized bed and no additional sleeping arrangements. You're welcome to have a third adult family member or two small children share a hobbit hole, but please note that we only provide two plates at breakfast. Additional servings can be purchased in advance for $20 each. Also, please do not run the shower for more than 1 hour within a 2-hour period so there is enough hot water for everyone.
Can we use the venue for weddings or events?
Yes! Our wedding/event package includes use of the entire property (except the host's home), use of the hobbit holes the night before and after the event, breakfast for any guests staying in the hobbit holes and trash disposal after the event. The total cost is $5000.
How long have you been open?
We opened the first two hobbit holes on May 24th, 2022. We stayed so busy that it took until March of 2023 to finish and furnish the other two.
Will you build any more?
No, four is all we can handle! We also could not make the youth shelter any larger without running into a lot of red tape.
What's a voluntary youth shelter?
It's a facility that provides care for older kids in the foster system who have not been placed with a foster family. We plan to create a safe and nurturing environment where boys and young men can heal, learn and grow.
